The Rhine River & Romantic GermanyTRAVELOGUE Day 1 / Sunday Frankfurt Arrival at Frankfurt airport and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore at your leisure. Accommodation at the Hotel Mövenpick Frankfurt City****. Day 2 / Monday Frankfurt - Heidelberg - Freiburg In the morning you travel to Heidelberg to visit the famous castle. Heidelberg is Germany’s oldest university town and one of the most popular destinations in the country. The city is idyllically located on the shore of the Neckar River. Our next destination is Freiburg. Accommodation at the Hotel Novotel Freiburg am Konzerthaus****. Day 3 / Tuesday Freiburg - Lake Titi - Lindau - Füssen After breakfast you enjoy a sightseeing tour of Freiburg. Then we continue to Lake Titi in the legendary Black Forest. Our next destination is the small island of Lindau, in Lake Constance. After a brief stop, we conclude our day in Füssen, a small mountain village located at the most southern point of our tour of Romantic Germany. Accommodation at the Luitpoldpark-Hotel****. Day 4 / Wednesday Neuschwanstein - Wieskirche - Oberammergau - Ettal Abbey - Garmisch Partenkirchen We begin the day with a visit to Neuschwanstein Castle, built by Ludwig II, the notorious „mad king“. In the afternoon we travel to Oberammergau, famous for its Passion Play and lovely crafts. Along the way we visit the Wieskirche church before continuing the tour to the Ettal Benedictine Abbey. Today‘s final destination is Garmisch Partenkirchen, Germany’s winter sports capital and site of the 1936 winter Olympics. This mountainous region also features Germany’s highest peak, Zugspitze (2.962 m/9715 ft). Accommodation at the Treff Hotel Alpina****. Day 5 / Thursday Garmisch Partenkirchen - Linderhof - Munich In the morning you have time to relax or explore the city. An optional excursion (not included) is to ascend to the top of Zugspitze, Germany’s highest peak. In the afternoon we travel to Munich and visit Linderhof castle, one of the 3 castles built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Accommodation at the Hotel Holiday Inn Munich City Centre****. Day 6 / Friday Munich After breakfast you visit the gardens of the Nymphenburg summer palace, followed by a tour of the city’s main monuments, including Marienplatz, the square with the famous clock tower, the Frauenkirche cathedral and the elegant shopping boulevard Maximilianstrasse. The afternoon is free to explore at your leisure. In the evening you enjoy a traditional Bavarian dinner with folk music. Accommodation at the Hotel Holiday Inn Munich City Centre****. Day 7 / Saturday Munich - Rothenburg ob der Tauber - Frankfurt This morning you travel to Rothenburg ob der Tauber for a sightseeing tour of one of the prettiest and oldest towns in Romantic Germany. Today‘s final destination is Frankfurt. Arrival and transfer to your hotel. Accommodation at the Hotel Mövenpick Frankfurt City****. Day 8 / Sunday Frankfurt - Strasbourg The morning is free to spend at your leisure. Transfer to the train station where we board the train to Strasbourg. Upon arrival, transfer to the Strasbourg pier where you board the cruise ship and meet the crew. Welcome reception. Optional boat tour of historic Strasbourg (subject to minimum number of participants). The cruise ship will depart after the boat tour. Day 9 / Monday Strasbourg - Koblenz Today we sail to the cities of Lauterburg, Speyer or Mainz. On our way to Koblenz we sail by Rüdesheim, the most beautiful stretch of the romantic Rhine route. Arrival in Koblenz around 6 p.m. Visit the city in the company of one of the crew members. Free evening. Overnight in Koblenz. Day 10 / Tuesday Koblenz - Romantic Rhine Valley - Rüdesheim Today we sail back along one of the most beautiful stretches of the Romantic Rhine route between Koblenz and Rüdesheim. The river meanders by magnificent castles and hillside vineyards. Arrival in Rüdesheim. Free time for an optional train excursion to a local vineyard, including wine tasting. After dinner you are free to explore Rüdesheim. Day 11 / Wednesday Rüdesheim - Speyer or Mannheim - Strasbourg Early morning departure as we sail up the Rhine to Speyer, passing through the cities of Wiesbaden, Nierstein, Worms and Mannheim. Optional excursion to Heidelberg. Return to the boat in Speyer or Mannheim. Gala dinner and dance onboard. Overnight sailing to Strasbourg. Day 12 / Thursday Strasbourg - Frankfurt Arrival in Strasbourg around 9 a.m. Transfer to the train station where you board the train to Frankfurt.
