Renewable energy in Germany

The interest in renewable sources of energy has increased signifi cantly over the last few years. The Federal Government has decided to encourage industry to increase its use of renewable energy by setting goals that by 2010 13% of all energy used should come from renewable sources, and 20% by 2020. In order to achieve this, the Federal Government has already committed to investing 800 million between 2005 and 2010 for scientifi c research in the area of sustainable development policies. Germany is one of the leading countries in the production of wind energy, producing a third of all wind energy in the world. The largest solar energy power plant was inaugurated in 2005 in Bavaria and it’s also in Germany where we find the largest solar power installations in the world. The headquarters of the International Solar Energy Society are in Freiburg. We will be pleased to organize a customized theme visit on the topic of renewable energy in Germany.
