In the footsteps of Martin Luther

In 1517, German monk Martin Luther (1483-1546) proposed to reform the church by nailing 95 theses to the doors of the castle church in Wittenberg. This event sparked the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. Luther’s work had an enormous impact on western theology and culture, and influenced many other protestant thinkers. On this tour we follow in the footsteps of this famous reformer and visit fascinating cities like Wittenberg, Leipzig and Dresden.

TRAVELOGUE

Day 1 Berlin - Wittenberg – Eisleben - Erfurt
After leaving Berlin we visit Wittenberg and the largest Reformation museum in the world. The tomb of Luther can be found in the Schlosskirche church of Wittenberg. On the way to Erfurt we visit the city of Eisleben, where Luther was born in 1517.

Day 2 Erfurt - Eisenach
Erfurt is also known as the “Thuringian Rome“ because of its architectural beauty. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city and visit the Augustine monastery and the largest wooden bridge in Europe. Continue to Eisenach and visit the museum of the famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach, heritage site of UNESCO.

Day 3 Eisenach - Weimar - Leipzig
Today we visit the impressive castle of Wartburg, where Luther translated the New Testament into German. Next we travel to Weimar, the home town of famous personalities such as Goethe, Schiller, Bach and Liszt.

Day 4 Leipzig – Dresden
Sightseeing tour of Leipzig, the city that for many centuries influenced Europe’s economy and spiritual life. The historic architecture of the city center has been beautifully preserved and restored. Next we travel to Dresden.

Day 5 Dresden - Berlin
Dresden is one of the most charming cities in Central Europe and is also known as ‘Florence on the Elbe’. Visit the recently restored Frauenkirche church, the famous Dresden Opera House, the Imperial Zwinger palace and enjoy a stroll along the Elbe River. In the afternoon we return to Berlin.
