Switzerland by Bernina Express

Take an impressive train tour through the gorgeous Swiss countryside onboard the famous Bernina Express. This route has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage for its exquisite beauty. The train travels by Mount Piz Bernina and Piz Palü, through landscapes dotted with blue lakes and framed by eternal glaciers. At the end of the train ride awaits Italian Lake Lugano with its balmy Mediterranean climate.

TRAVELOGUE

Day 1 Zurich - Chur
Transfer from your hotel or airport to the train station in Zurich. Board the train to Chur, the city of Graubünden. Overnight stay.

Day 2 Chur - Bernina Express - Tirano - Lugano
Today you continue the tour on the famous Bernina Express. In 2008, this railway was designated a UNESCO cultural heritage. The train travels through the famous Albula gorge and crosses the sunny region of Engadina before reaching the top of the Bernina pass at an elevation of 2.253 m (7300 ft). From the panorama railcar you enjoy spectacular views of the eternally frozen glaciers and snowcapped peaks of Piz Bernina and Piz Palü. The train descends 1.800 m (5900 ft) before arriving at the city of Tirano in Italy. From here you travel by bus to Lugano on the shore of famous Lake Lugano. Overnight stay.

Day 3 Lugano
The day is free to enjoy the Mediterranean climate of Lake Lugano. We recommend a boat tour on the lake or a cable car ride to the top of Mount Bre or Mount San Salvatore for beautiful views over the lake (not included). Overnight stay.

Day 4 Lugano - Zurich
Today you travel onboard the “Gotthardbahn”train from Lugano to Lac des Quatre-Cantons, passing through Airolo, Göschenen and Wassen. Change trains and returnto Zurich. Transfer to your hotel or tothe airport. End of travel program.
